About
I started this project because I wanted to feel like a better neighbor. The world right now often feels overwhelming, so I turned my attention somewhere more local. I want to create visuals that reflect the conversations at the co-op or town meeting — highlighting the things we're quietly worried about or proud of.
Data visualization is usually reserved for the highbrow: New York Times explainers on macroeconomics, national election maps, global climate models. I kept wondering why it couldn't work for smaller, more ordinary stories too. Could you answer a neighbor's question with a simple, honest visual?
I think data gets a bad reputation for being cold, but I actually find it kind of intimate. It's a layer just beneath the surface of everyday life. I try to start with a hunch or a question, but the data often surprises me or complicates things in ways I hadn't expected.
Most of all, this project is an attempt to learn more about my community and my role in it.
